The Coldest War
Ever since the Russians stepped into Ukraine on 24th February 2022, the world has entered a new era of Geopolitics where the only certain thing is “Uncertainty”. The quest for power and world domination has picked up its pace. If you think it all started with the Russian invasion of Ukraine then you are wrong, the beginning of this chaos started with the ending of a previous one. World War II marked its end in 1945 with allies winning over the Nazis but it turned out that all the allies were not “Allied” after all. The United States feared the power possessed by the Soviets under the leadership of Stalin. In 1947 came the Truman Doctrine, which transformed the foreign policy of the United States by an official declaration that the United States stood anti of the Soviets and their expansion plans Thus, started an endless and scary race of power and dominance commonly known as “Cold War”. During the Cold War, the two states never came face to face in a full-scale war, major reason which saved the world from this catastrophe was the geo-positioning of both the states making it impossible to invade each other. However, there came close calls where Nuclear War was imminent. It was a fight to determine which pole will the rest of the world follow. Both the countries spared no deal in winning it by fair and unfair means. UN, Space Programs, Nuclear Weapons Programs, and even in chess, whenever they came face to face espionage and politics followed. The Cold War marked its end in 1991 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
During the period of the Cold War, the United States got its hands dirty as it went far in business. Afghan War and Vietnam War are the textbook example of the US leading peaceful states on a collision course for their motives which in the end came to haunt them in form of 9/11 and other terror attacks. When the US won, the world became unipolar, the center of power was the West, and they were now able to do their wish. Deciding to keep this upper hand of power gave rise to NATO, Europe was now hand in hand with the US or should we say that their leash was in American hands. The end as we thought of it was not the real end but the beginning of phase 2 (further clarity given ahead). Phase 2 or “The Colder War” Started when Vladimir Putin had enough of NATO’s offense.
The Colder War unlike the Cold War was not
about the strategic and muscle power dominance but a game of “Who rules the
fuel”. Putin was smart and knew what he was doing, while the US expanded NATO
eastwards, Putin made Europe kneel before Russia by controlling the natural
resources such as crude oil and gas on which these European countries were
dependent largely. Putin once said:
“The Cold War is over; the world has become
much more complicated”
The US never saw it coming.
Marin Katusa explains the entire Russian
strategy of Oil dominance in his book “The Colder War”, I recommend everyone to
read it, only a few chapters would be enough to blow your mind.
Up till now what we have discussed was
related to the past, till 24th February 2022 to be exact. Now comes the
interesting part where I would like to break that I believe that the Colder War
has marked its end too. With Russia invading Ukraine we now step into Phase 3
or “The Coldest War” as I like to say it. Coining the term “The Coldest War”
was easy for me as easy as it was for Russia to launch a full-scale war on
Ukraine without bothering about the sanctions from the US.
The Coldest War is all about the Westwards
expansion of Russia in response to the Eastwards expansion of NATO. Putin is
demanding his share in world dominance, and the globe will likely have two
poles now (US & Russia). A bipolar world with loads of uncertainty has
exhibited the new rules of the game; “Camp Politics”. Both the poles now demand
the allies to pick a side, those who failed to do so or opposed it faced the
consequences. The bankruptcy of Sri Lanka and Whatever happened in Pakistan is
Infront of the World. It should be of note that this bipolar world would offer
a lot of money so there will not be anything that cannot be bought whether it
be loyalty, allegiance, or even “Opinions”.
Every country has a “state”, a group of
people who make the decisions and pull the strings. We as people need to learn
that this group moves with the tide of the world, they will not hesitate to
impose the New World Order if it suits their motive. It should be of note too
that every master bows to a bigger master and eventually chain continues to one
single source, that singular source is a talk for another day, but we should
know that supremacy is not limited to this group of people, it stretches far
beyond their reach, and they all are confined too, they just do not know it
yet. Russia is occupied by the thought of strategic expansion, the US however
likes to play these gimmicks of Regime Changes, Subtle assassinations, and
Economic Terrorism, that is what they did with Castro in response to the Cuban
Missile Crises, to Saddam in Iraq, to Gaddafi in Libya and many more. The
Bush’s, Reagan’s, Clinton’s, Obama’s, Trump’s, and Biden’s are like spoiled
kids who do not like to hear “No!”. The question that remains is Will Phase 3
or “Coldest War” will ever mark its end?
My reply to this is; Not Anytime Soon.
There is a lot more to talk about and
discuss the Coldest War and its impact on local politics and how that singular
source is responsible for this complicated game, but we will keep it for
another time InshaAllah.
